Where I Stand: My Values and Mission
As a therapist, it’s deeply important to me that you know where I stand and what values shape both my personal life and the mission of my business. This isn’t just a statement—it’s a reflection of how I show up for my clients and the world around me. Here’s what guides me:
My Core Values
I value compassion, humanity, authenticity, empathy, and inclusivity. I believe in the power of holistic mind-body-soul healing and guiding people toward their unique journey of self-acceptance and growth. Diversity, empowerment, and self-expression are central to my approach—everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued.
I value humor because laughing really is good for healing. Music and movement are also powerful tools for connection and healing. Let it be known: 90s hip-hop is untouchable.
I also believe in continuously learning, evolving, and changing. I think it’s essential to learn from people different from myself through courses, trainings, books, the media I consume, and professional and personal relationships.
I believe in the law of “Fuck around and find out” (FAFO) as a guiding principle—actions have consequences, and accountability matters.
Where I Stand
- Racial Justice: I fully support racial justice and stand in solidarity with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). I engage in my own anti-racist work through books, podcasts, trainings, learning from people different from myself, and supporting BIPOC- and women-owned businesses.
- Gender Equality: I believe in equality for all genders and the right to live free from discrimination.
- LGBTQAI+ Rights: I support the LGBTQAI+ community and advocate for inclusion and equity for all. Love and identity are not up for debate.
- Women’s Rights and Freedom of Choice: I support women’s rights, autonomy, and the ability to make decisions about their own bodies and lives.
- Humanity: I don’t debate people’s humanity—I honor it. Every individual deserves dignity, respect, and the freedom to live authentically.
- Planet and Sustainability: Although I don’t always get it right, I care about our planet and recognize the urgency of addressing climate change and working toward sustainability. My recycling game could use work, but I’m not giving up yet.
- Health at Every Size: I believe in Health At Every Size and reject the use of BMI as a valid measure of health. Exercise shouldn’t be a punishment—when we move our bodies with joy, health and healing follow.
My Mission
My mission is to support women in building self-worth, breaking toxic cycles, and embracing self-love through practical and holistic tools for healing. I believe in meeting people where they are and providing space to acknowledge life’s struggles without minimizing the hard, often messy realities of lived experiences. Healing is not about forcing positivity—it’s about making room for your truth.
Healing isn’t linear, and that’s okay. Rest is part of growth. Progress over perfection is the goal.
Accessibility and Commitment
I am deeply committed to accessibility in all forms—whether that’s in my services, communication, or acknowledging and addressing the barriers others might face. It’s important to me to support, buy, and learn from women- and BIPOC-owned businesses, and I donate to and volunteer with causes that align with my values.
What I Don’t Condone
I don’t believe in toxic positivity. It’s important to acknowledge the shitty, hard things that shape who we are and recognize that not everyone has access to the same privileges or opportunities. I also do not condone behaviors or beliefs that dehumanize others or deny people their rights. That includes:
- Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any form of hate or discrimination.
- Spiritual bypassing or minimizing pain and struggle.
- Misinformation and harmful conspiracy theories.
Honoring the Land
I want to acknowledge and honor that I was born on Lenape land and currently live and work on Patawomeck land. This acknowledgment is a small but significant step in recognizing the history and resilience of Indigenous communities.
Acknowledging My Privilege
As a woman who grew up in a low-income, split-family household, with drug and alcohol addiction present, I’ve faced challenges and instability that inform how I approach my work. At the same time, I recognize and acknowledge my own privileges and how they shape my perspective. I’m committed to continued learning, unlearning, and growth as I work to create a space where everyone feels supported and validated.
A Living Document
This statement is a living document, meaning it may grow and evolve as I do. My commitment to you is to remain accountable, transparent, and open to change as I continue to deepen my understanding of these issues and how they intersect with my work.
Thank you for taking the time to understand where I stand and what I value. Together, I hope we can continue to create a world that values compassion, humanity, and healing.
What are some values that guide you? Let’s talk about it—I’d love to know.
